10 Stability and coagulation of mixed water dispersions of mineral powders and latexes — Prof. Koshevar V. D., PhD Kazhuro I.P.
Abstract:

Systematic study of aggregate stability and coagulation of water binary mixtures of synthetic latexes and mineral powders of different chemical nature and particles sizes depending on the charge and electro kinetic potential of particles, concentration of disperse phases and pH of dispersion medium was performed using photo-sedimentation, differential-thermal, turbidimetry, ζ-photometry, IR-spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy methods. High aggregate stability of mixed dispersions of acrylic, styrene-butadiene latexes with kaolin and titan dioxide in basic media was established, it is reasoned by the localization of latex particles of colloidal size near negatively charged mineral particles. In acid media (pH=3.5) substantial drop of aggregate stability of these binary systems accompanied by the formation of flaky non-dispersible precipitate as a result of homo- and hetero-coagulation processes taking place. The stability of binary mixtures of all investigated latexes and microcalcite is much less dependent of chemical nature of latexes and changes of pH of the medium. Possible reasons of such behavior of the compositions being
studied are discussed.
Keywords: kaolin, titanium dioxide, microcalcite, latexes, mixed dispersions, aggregate stability, electro kinetic
potential, heterocoagulation.

20 Method for increasing the hardness of 1K aliphatic PU coating — Antipova E. A., Korotkova N. P., Styunina A. O.
Abstract:

In this paper, the influence of the concentration of rigid segments in a PU elastomer on its technological and physical-mechanical properties, as well as on chemical resistance, is investigated. The study was carried out using PU-elastomeric binders synthesized on the basis of aliphatic polyester with MM 2000 and functionality 2, aliphatic polyisocyanate and chain extension. On the basis of these components, a number of pre-polymers with a mass fraction of NCO groups of 8.5% and different concentrations of rigid segments were synthesized. The synthesis of the pre-polymers was carried out according to a well-known technology at a temperature of 70–80 °C.
The physical and mechanical properties of the cured material were studied on films that were prepared by pouring a pre-polymer solution in a system of solvents methyl ethyl ketone : xylene = 60 : 40 into glass molds treated with an anti-adhesive. The films were formed under the following conditions: 1 day at the temperature and humidity of the room; 12 hours — in a thermal cabinet at 80 °C. The complete curing of the films was controlled by the gel-fraction method (extraction with acetone in the Soxlet apparatus). The gel fraction in the samples was no more than 4%, which indicates a degree of curing of >95%. The obtained films were tested on the machine «Instron 3369» according to GOST 270-75.
The protective properties of PU film samples were evaluated at room temperature by the value of the equilibrium degree of swelling in the following media: distilled water, transformer oil.
The adhesion of the cured coatings to glass and stainless steel was determined by the cross cut method in accordance with GOST 15140-78.
Optimization of the concentration of rigid segments allowed the development of a new 1K aliphatic PU binder for obtaining UV-resistant coatings with high hardness, strength, adhesion and chemical resistance.

Abstract:

Of the many ways to prevent icing: thermal, mechanical, physical and chemical the most interesting is the use of anti-icing coatings, which are subject to a number of specific requirements, the main of them-reduced adhesion to ice. There are many approaches to creating coatings with reduced adhesion to ice. This includes the introduction of polysiloxanes, the use of fluorinated polymers or organosilicon. Also, one of the promising directions of creating such coatings is the use of superhydrophobic coatings. However, for comparative tests of various coatings, it was necessary to develop a special method for determining the adhesive strength to ice and it is desirable to display it in physical quantities by direct tests, rather than indirect (as the method of cross cut by GOST 31149-2014). The SPbGTI (TU) developed a method and designed a special installation for determining the adhesive strength to ice of various coatings. To conduct tests to determine the adhesive strength to ice, a special nozzle was developed and manufactured-a cup and steel rods on which the test paint is applied and subjected to freezing in the freezer up to –18 oC. This method allows to determine the physical value of the adhesive strength to the ice in MPa.
The following coatings were selected as test samples: organosilicon-based coating, organosilicon-based coating with the introduction of Foraflex fluoroplastic additive, organosilicon-based coating with the introduction of glass microspheres, epoxy-based coating, silosane-based coating, fluoroplastics-based coating, pure metal (steel 3).
The results were processed on a computer using a special program for numerical data analysis and scientific graphics — Origin. It is established that the most effective anti-icing coatings are coatings based on organosilicon and fluoropolymers, which have an adhesion to ice of 4–6 MPa.
Keywords: organosilicon resins, adhesion, anti-icing coatings.

Abstract:

Coatings with certain electrical characteristics are considered: liquid coatings intended for application in an electrostatic field, powder coatings for application in a high-voltage electric field, and coatings for application by electrodeposition methods. It is believed that the optimum electrical and physical-mechanical properties of electrically conductive coatings are achieved when two interpenetrating phases occur in the coating: a continuous grid of an electrically conductive filler and a grid of a film-forming agent oriented in it. Electrically conductive pigments and fillers allow electricity to pass through the coating or dissipate. Abstract:

Based on special hyperbranched polymers, new wetting and dispersing additives have been developed for solvent-free UV-curable coatings matted with silica. Thanks to specially selected pigment affinity groups, the hyperbranched polymer is adsorbed on the surface of the matting additive, keeps the particles separated and prevents flocculation of the matting additive particles. 28 Thicker than water. A new class of rheology additives for water-borne systems - Dominika Bernert, Sylvia Bühne, Kathrin Möllers, René Nagelsdiek
Abstract:

A new class of liquid additives based on polyamide chemistry that can be successfully used to control the rheology of water systems has been developed. Unlike conventional thickeners, these polyamides do not require thermal activation. They are presented as an easy-to-use, low-viscosity solution and do not require any extensive pre-gel production. The molecular structure of this class of additives can be adapted to the intended use. Rheological additives provide good results in many water-based systems. In water-soluble epoxy compositions, the new additives show a pronounced tolerance to the addition of the hardener, i.e. after the addition of the hardener, the viscosity does not fall. Additives not only increase the viscosity, but also control the viscoelastic properties of the coating and can therefore be used to improve the orientation of effective pigments.
Keywords: additives, rheology, thickeners, water-based systems.

38 Water epoxy emulsions stabilized by microparticles of polymers — Ph. D. Shinkareva E.V
Abstract:

The presence of polymer microparticles enhances the stability of aqueous emulsions of epoxy resins during storage. Emulsions stabilized by acrylic-methacrylic aqueous dispersion of the polymer are most stable. Emulsions stabilized by these polymer particles are stored for 24 months without visible signs of separation. Using a test surfactant (sodium oleate), it was found that the degree of adsorption saturation of some industrial water dispersions of polymers and the values of the free energy of adsorption of nonionic emulsifiers by the surface of their microparticles decrease in the series acrylic-methacrylic  polymethylsiloxane  styrene-acrylate  carboxylated butadiene-styrene. It was shown that aqueous dispersions of polymers with an unsaturated surface adsorb nonionic emulsifiers the stronger, the higher their polarity. It has been suggested that the stabilizing effect is associated with heterostabilization of particles of the mixed dispersed phase and the strength of the formed structural framework.
Keywords: epoxy resins, water emulsions, non-ionic emulsifiers.

26 Stability and structural-rheological properties of water emulsions of epoxy resins — PhD Shinkareva E. V.
Abstract:

The article shows that the most effective emulsifiers for the preparation of aqueous emulsions based on ED-20 resin are Emulsogen LCN-287 and OS-20; Resins NPEL 127, NPEL 128, CHS-EPOXY 520, CHS-EPOXY 530 — Emulsogen LCN-287. The optimal concentration of resins in emulsions is 60 mass. %, emulsifiers — Emulsogen LCN-287 — 1×10–2 mol/l and OS-20 — 5×10–3 mol/l, emulsification temperature of resin ED-20 — 20 °C, NPEL 127, NPEL 128 and CHS-EPOXY 530 — 40 °C; CHS-EPOXY 520 — 50 °C. The method of emulsification of resins ED-20, NPEL 127 and CHS-EPOXY 520 — the method of direct emulsification and phase inversion; NPEL 128 and CHS-EPOXY 530 are phase inversions only. The resulting emulsions are polydisperse (0.1–250 μm, the predominant fraction is 0.1–5 μm) and are characterized by relatively low stability (no more than 7–12 days), and their sedimentation time is 10–20 days. It was shown that the ED-20 resin and H2O–(ED-20) system emulsions are structured non-Newtonian fluid-like systems, the studied resins NPEL 127, NPEL 128, CHS-EPOXY 520, CHS-EPOXY 530 are Newtonian fluids, and emulsions based on them are non-Newtonian. To increase the stability of emulsions, their additional stabilization is necessary.

15 New generation of low temperature hardeners for epoxy systems — Shustov R. Yu.
Abstract:

The influence of ‘AraCool’ grades depending on the stoichiometric ratio and the curing temperature on the corrosion resistance and the rate of hardening of the coating are studied. It was found that the deviation from the stoichiometric ratio to the level of 80% is not critical for the coating.
